Golf Mobility Assessments

Whether you're a recreational golfer or a competitive player, your body is your most important piece of equipment. Golf requires a unique combination of mobility, stability, strength, and coordination—and any limitation in those areas can impact your swing, performance, and risk for injury.

That’s where a TPI-certified physical therapist comes in.

TPI stands for the Titleist Performance Institute, a world-renowned organization that studies the biomechanics of the golf swing and how physical limitations affect performance. TPI developed a comprehensive assessment system that identifies movement restrictions and asymmetries that can limit your swing efficiency or contribute to injury.

Physical therapists trained through TPI are uniquely qualified to evaluate the body-swing connection, offering golf-specific rehabilitation and performance programs based on the individual needs of each golfer.

A physical therapist with TPI certification performs a golf-specific movement screen to evaluate how your body functions during key phases of the golf swing. This includes:

  • Assessing mobility and stability in critical areas such as the hips, thoracic spine, shoulders, and ankles

  • Identifying movement faults that may be impacting swing mechanics

  • Connecting physical limitations to common swing characteristics (e.g., early extension, sway, slide, loss of posture)

  • Creating a customized plan to improve golf mobility, strength, and motor control

In addition to addressing current injuries or pain (e.g., low back pain, elbow or shoulder strain), TPI-trained therapists also work proactively to prevent injuries by correcting movement inefficiencies before they cause problems.

Benefits of working with a TPI-certified physical therapist include:

  • Improved swing mechanics through better mobility and stability

  • Injury prevention by correcting movement dysfunctions and asymmetries

  • Rehabilitation from golf-related injuries such as low back pain, shoulder impingement, elbow tendinopathy, or hip restrictions

  • Increased clubhead speed and performance by optimizing how your body loads and rotates

  • Collaboration with golf coaches to bridge physical training with swing mechanics and technical instruction

  • Personalized home programs to reinforce improvements between sessions

Physical therapists don’t replace your swing coach—we enhance the work you do together. A TPI-certified physical therapist can work closely with your golf coach or teaching professional to:

  • Share insights from the movement screen

  • Target specific physical limitations that may be holding back your swing

  • Reinforce swing cues and positions with improved body awareness and control

  • Keep you healthy, mobile, and progressing over the course of your season

This collaborative approach ensures you’re not only practicing smarter—but also moving better and more safely.
